Wolfram Statistics Course Assistant App Reviews

30 add

Quite frustrating

All it has to offer is a line to input the set of numbers and produce the graphs, NEVER explaining how to get there or description of the items. Use their website, dont buy this.

Ok

Easy to use, but: Give me an input history Boxplot More Algorithms

Garbage!

It only got several distributions, doesnt even have Pareto, Weibull ect

Shallow, unstable

Statistical data limited in scope, lacks customization ability. Very limited probabilities. Frequently crashes, or refuses to compute. Interface is very clean.

Was expecting much more

There is so little information. For example, they only have two statistical distributions

Data edit

I too was disappointed. I had expected to be able to enter data once and make all various calcs. But I cant edit data, its not useful. The stats registers on my 30 yr old calculator far far better. With Wolfram I was expecting a tool that was useful. May I get my $2 back? Please?

Not worth paying for

Very limited functionality. Not worth paying for. Math teacher

Worth Its Weight in Gold

If it can help me win at poker, or figure my life expectancy, or determine the quickest route to happiness or even help me pass Statistics.

Disappointed

I expected so much more from Wolfram. StatViz is a much more intuitive and comprehensive program. Where are the confidence intervals, hypothesis tests or ANOVA. The distributions are sparse. I can only hope that updates will be free and add much more functionality. This project seems like it was rushed out the door.

Data Science

Statistics is about data, and the biggest drawback of this app is that the interface for inputting data is lousy. At best, this serves as a simple calculator for toy problems. No way any student could examine a real data set with hundreds of rows and more than two variables. Even including two variables is awkward here, because they must be input in (x1,y1), (x2,y2)....format. The graphics are fine (hence two stars) and there are some nice interactive touches, but this is a toy. As an intermediate step between toy and data analysis device, it might be nice if they would include some pre-installed real data sets that include an interesting context and demonstrate that the analyses actually can contribute to knowledge about real phenomenon.

Looks nice but...

It takes FOREVER to type in data. Having to type it in isnt so bad, but there is a several second delay between each key press. This makes the app fairly unusable.

Pretty good app

I would like to see combination and permutation calculations added. It would be cool if you could enter data from a chart, maybe a 3x3 or configurable rows & columns, and figure out the probability. I dont believe I saw a z-score calculator but that would be nice too.

Limited

Very limited and basic, absolutely insufficient.

Blackdroid97

Waste of 2 bucks wasnt what i thought

Terrible app

This app is a ***terrible*** tool for a statistics class. The interface is not user friendly and it is painfully difficult to input data. There is also no way to compare across data sets once each set is entered - you have to start all over again. Most of the tools such as those for probability and data relationships, will never be of use to a real student in a class...the tools that we actually need, like for ANOVA, are not included. Save your money and do NOT purchase this app.

Meh

All of these things are pretty much accessible via the standard wolfram alpha app and web interface - an undoubtedly amazing resource. Necessary updates before this app is the slightest bit useful: -numpad input with large numbers -save data sets

Some good stuff

Needs more distributions. Only 1 form of Gamma distribution.

just awful

Like most Wolfram products this app is very pretty but totally useless. It doesnt even work if you arent online. This is just a thin interface to their Alpha site. Need to calculate a few random integers? Want to plot a few points on a bar graph or histogram? Need to find the standard deviation or variance of a few numbers? Do you want to know the average of some numbers? Do you want to generate a random number? This app will do all that after it submits your request online followed by a long delay before giving you an answer that you could have just as easily and more quickly computed with a pencil and paper. Sometimes It would time-out just waiting for the average of a numbers. If you need assistance in your statistics course to calculate the average of some numbers or to plot a few points as a bar chart then you you need a lot more help than this app can offer. Do you really need a $5 stats assistant to calculate the standard deviation of a handful of numbers? Sadly, you would still be disappointed with this assistant. This app wont teach you statistics. This isnt a statistics reference that you can use to review topics. This wont help you understand statistical methods. This isnt a stats oriented calculator that you can use to crunch numbers... I dont know what this is good for. Wolfram is turning into a huge disappointment with these apps that just repackage the web interface to their Alpha engine. If you want to be disappointed in AI then just go to their web site to use their Alpha engine. Its free and just as useless. If they are trying to build familiarity and loyalty for their tools then they arent going to achieve that by charging $5 for the same tool under different names.

Eh?

On the number randomizer you need to have an option to not have repeating numbers

Poor Performance!

Despite the claims, this app will time out when provided with a relatively short data list for computation. I am very surprised at the poor performance of this product given its pedigree.
